Fueled by Lust: Caelius
by Celeste Prater
What or who inspired you to start writing?
It was my dad. He was an artist and had the coolest mind. I could talk to him for hours. I think I was about twelve or thirteen. You know, that awkward time when you don’t fit into your body yet, hormones are going wack-a-doodle on you, and you can’t seem to find where you exactly belong in life? Yep, that was the time I needed some focus. I was a serious introvert and always had my nose in a book. He walked in my room one day and set a leather journal and a nice pen on the end of my bed. He pulled my toe and told me that I needed to get out of my head and start putting things down on paper. He’d read some of my school creative writing projects and obviously saw something good in my stories. I dabbled around with writing for years, not really doing anything with it but for my own pleasure. I was an extrovert by time I hit the point where I needed to fend for myself. So, his advice worked.
Years after his death, I was asked to speak about my dad at a showing of his work to celebrate his life. After I’d finished I realized I was in tears and the majority of the audience was as well. The woman that had put the show together approached me and said I should be a writer. It wasn’t until January 2013 that I started Drusus’s story (book 1) with a mindset that I was going to do my father proud and finally see if I could get some of my remaining vivid imagination out of my head for others to enjoy.
What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?
I don’t shout this out to the rooftops or use it as an excuse to claim that I ‘finally found myself’ because of it. It is what it is…just another thing life hands you and you either let it break you or you learn from it. This is the first interview that I’ve mentioned it. I’m only sharing this because it helps to understand why I don’t give a rat’s patooty if someone looks down their nose at me when they find out I write erotic romance. I love this genre!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2010. I’m one of the lucky ones. I found it early and they only had to take out a microscopic piece of tissue, so I still got to keep my ‘puppies’ as I call them. That was the point when I said, “Oh shit, I have a lot on my bucket list.” I started researching erotic romance. I did that for two years and finally started the Fueled By Lust series. Life is short whether you get a scary disease or not. Do something you’ve always wanted to do. To hell what other people think.
Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing?
No, and I don’t have any plans to do that. I realized that no matter what or how I write, there is always going to be two sides and versatile opinions. It’s not personal. Everyone has a unique brain and what they imagine from the written word is theirs alone. I could get a group of five people together that would tell me to not even mention a condom in the stories since its science fiction for god sake and we’re here to escape, not to remember. On the other hand a totally different group would say to go into a huge spiel about how it needs to be addressed. I decided that I’m going to give the reader what is right inside my head and they will either see the exact same thing, or have a totally different take on it. I have an excellent editor at Siren and I receive fantastic, constructive feedback. They seem very happy with the route I’m taking, so I’m good to go.
Can you tell us a little about the black moment in your book?
It has to be the scene with Caelius at the Heat Seekers night club. He’s already gone through something very traumatizing and is trying to keep his wits about himself. However, when he enters the hallway to ascend the stairs up to the dressing room, he has an encounter, that I can’t tell you about since it is a definite spoiler, but I will say that was his epiphany moment and the whole book, and his thinking, took a 90 degree.
There’s also another interweaving storyline going on in Caelius’s book. I’ve finally gotten Kallon and Ulixes’s full story included (Get your tissues ready). Readers were demanding it, and it worked in nicely to what’s happening to Caelius as well. The black moment for Kallon came when he steps into the vortex just seconds after Ulixes’s does. He discovers something there that breaks his heart and changes how he approaches the distance that Ulixes has shoved between them.
For those that haven’t started the Fueled By Lust series, I definitely recommend that you read them in sequence for the best understanding of the repeating characters and startups/conclustions of seeds planted in prior books.
Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little bit about your book?
Yes. As soon as one book finishes I jump on the next. Even though I write these books, I’m always dying to find out what’s going to happen next.
This new installment is Maxim’s story. You see Maxim throughout all of the other books. He’s the jokester and will crack you up with some of the things he does to the other Insedi. Caelius is his roommate, so that story will blend easily into this new one. There’s going to be a lot of things revealed about the Insedi in this installment. It’s definitely going to make a few mouths drop open. I’m a little over half-way done and hope to have it submitted to the publisher right after Caelius releases on October 9.
I’ve also got the ‘sticky notes in my head’ about the seventh. Makar and Baruch from Lucien’s story (book 4) will be revisited. This will be the first installment where I’m stepping into the world of ménage. I’m rubbing my hands together in anticipation.
As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?
My ultimate goal is to become a full-time writer. I have a day job that gets in the way of writing other stories outside of the FBL series. I hope my boss doesn’t read this. LOL!
But, for right now, my plans are to continue the FBL series for as long as the readers demand that I keep giving them another story. I’ve got plenty of hot, Insedi warriors to go through, and much to reveal about the Unfortunate One Hundred, the hunt for their offspring, and maybe a story on the life of one of the original ancestors. Who knows where these guys are going to take me?
What is your favorite reality show?
I have two. Big Brother and Survivor. If I have to choose between the two, it would have to be Survivor. Not only are they playing mind games, which is taxing enough, but they’re battling the elements. Watching the true side of someone come out (breaking them or making them, even when they know the whole world is watching is just fascinating to me.
Who is your favorite actor and actress?
Angelina Jolie, hands down. It’s not just her films or acting ability. It’s her whole persona. She’s a Gemini like me. She doesn’t give a rat’s butt what people think about her. She has a life that she loves and she’s enjoying every minute of it. You can see the brain pan working on full alert when you look in her eyes. She’s tough. I love it!
Jason Momoa is my favorite actor. I think he’s under appreciated. One day they’ll look past his gorgeous face and realize he’s got some depth there.
If you were a casting director for the film version of your book, who would play your lead roles?
Hmmm…let’s see…Jason Momoa. He looks just like an Insedi warrior. Right now, he’s stuck in my brain while I’m writing Maxim’s story. If it ever went to film, he’d get tagged, that’s for sure. That man gives me heart palpitations as soon as a pic pops up with that breathtaking face.
Angelina Jolie was in my head when I wrote about Luna in Cato’s story. She could pull off that vulnerable, caught in a trap, but tough enough to survive heroine.
Anything else you might want to add?
Definitely! Thanks for asking. Whenever I get a chance, I like to give a shout out to my partners in crime on the book covers. I personally select my models and each one of these guys are wonderful.
Cisco Perez portrayed Severus. He’s with a male revue club out of Orlando, Florida called Rock Hard Revue. They just recently appeared on America’s Got Talent. Find Cisco on Facebook under Cisco Male Entertainer.
Devon Sutton is from Cleveland, Ohio and did a great job as Cato with that awesome tat. His male revue club, IronMen The Show, recently finished filming a pilot for A&E. Find him on twitter under @devonsutton75.
The awesome Richard Jimenez, producer for Magnificent 7 Male Revue out of Los Angeles, California introduced me to Lucien’s model and a Magnificent 7 entertainer, the very sexy and intelligent Axel. You can find them at http://magnificent7malerevue.com/
Valentino is an independent male entertainer and is the hunk you see on Caelius’s cover. All that hair is real ladies! You can find him on Facebook under ValentinoMx.
Jason Spears is with a nutritional company out of Texas and will be the model for Maxim’s book. He’ll knock you out with his smile. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing his social media sites coming up soon.
Thanks for having me here today! Big kiss to the fans! Love you guys!
Caelius Meron strips at Heat Seekers Male Revue just so he can find his mate. So imagine his shock when he finds her in a cooking class he was forced to attend. So what’s the problem? There’s twenty-two of them according to Rhia Brennan. Undaunted by her claim that he’s too young, Caelius battles every roadblock she places. But what if one may be too difficult to ignore?
Kallon Aceso knows exactly who should own his heart, but Ulixes Dionysus doesn’t appear to want it. But is it really something else buried so deep that it may keep them apart forever?
Travel with these two Insedi as they both chase their hearts desire, only to be thwarted by misconceptions and mistakes from the past. Can they scale these insurmountable walls, or will they have to walk away and forever mourn what they could never have?
Book 5 in the Fueled By Lust Series brings back the sexy males that make your legs tremble just by saying your name.
Lowering his voice, Caelius leaned in even closer. He feared he may have disappointed her, and he didn’t want to miss any part of her expression.
“Does what I do each night bother you?”
She looked up and blinked a few times before she spoke. Her voice came low and husky, and his skin pebbled.
“No. Not in the least. It was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.” He watched her throat work on a hard swallow before she continued.
“Your body was gleaming and showed off every single muscle as you swung that sword. It was the first time I’d seen your hair down, too. It’s…it’s beautiful. After you won, you worked your way down the row of women and paid each one of them close attention. I’m sure they felt like they were the only person in the room when you looked at them. With every song, your body swayed perfectly to the music, and it mesmerized me. I…uh…yeah…it was great.”
Caelius was having a hard time focusing on her answer. Her jasmine-scented desire had resurfaced and was wreaking havoc on his concentration, not to mention his cock. It was at full length and pushing insistently against his jeans. He said the first thing that came to mind. Something he wanted very badly.
“I want to kiss you, Rhia.” He wasn’t expecting her to recoil as if he was a hissing viper. Her laughter was shaky and broken.
“Good grief, Caelius. Why on Earth would you want to kiss me?
