Cypress Knees

Cypress Knees are woody projections sent above the normal water level from the roots of a Cypress Tree. People used to think that if the knees were removed the tree would die, however this is not true. They are cut, sanded then varnished and sent as is or they are carved into works of art. The wood is soft and so easily carved.

Sinker Cypress

Sinker Cypress trees have been submersed underwater. In order to be harvested they must be underwater from 80 to 100 years. Once harvested they make them into lumber for furniture, boats, siding and more. This wood is not affected by water, bugs, rot and disease. They now locate these submerged trees by sonar.
