For Claire

by Amelia Swan

  1. How did you come up with ideas for your books?

For the most part, they just come to me. I brainstorm during the pockets of time during the day when I don’t have something else occupying my mind. Sometimes my ideas are born out of real-life experiences of my own or people I know.

2. What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?

I love playing board games, fantasy football, and Dungeons and Dragons.

  1. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

“For Jay” the book that follows “For Claire” in this series is currently in the editing process and should be out later this year. My second full length novel, Wrestling with Summer, comes out May 29th.

  1. Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing?

I don’t belong to a critique group, but I wish that I did. I think there’s a lot of value with connecting to other writers. Also, you should always have some sort of reviewer go over your work before you send it anymore. Currently, my husband does this for me.

  1. What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)

The best advice I’ve received is to be patient. Luckily, I haven’t been on the receiving end of any bad advice.

  1. Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I usually have a rough idea of where a story is going to go before I start writing it, but I usually don’t have the patience to jot down the finer details first. Most of my planning goes on in my head.

  1. Do you have any hobbies and does the knowledge you’ve gained from these carry over into your characters or the plot of your books?

I tend to integrate my hobbies into my books. I’ve had vegan characters, characters who do yoga, characters who like professional wrestling, and characters who like to cook (like Dylan).

  1. Do you have an all time favorite book?

It’s either Slaughterhouse-Five or The Great Gatsby. You can probably throw The Hunger Games series into the mix too. I don’t think I could ever choose just one.

  1. Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little bit about your book?

I’m currently working on two books: a sequel to my new adult romance Drawn Together and a contemporary romance I haven’t named yet. It’s about a girl who wants her sister’s fun and exciting life in New York until a sexy stranger on the train wondering what she really does want.

Claire is dreading her 30th birthday…until she finds out Jay is flying out to help her and Dylan celebrate. Armed with a new dress and a carefree attitude, Claire is ready for whatever the big night may bring.

It’s been three months since the last time Jay met up with the married couple he’s grown so fond of. When he finds out Claire’s birthday is coming up, he jumps at the opportunity to see them again.

Jay and Dylan are hoping to give Claire a birthday she’ll never forget, but she ends up getting so much more…
What would make Claire’s 30th birthday a memorable event? A night in bed with her husband and their lover.
Publisher’s Note: This title contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: male/male sexual situations, ménage (m/m/f).

With two fingers, Dylan shoved the envelope a few more inches in my direction and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “This will brighten your spirits, I promise.”

I perked up as his lips lingered against my skin. I ran my thumb under the envelope’s flap, ready for whatever bit of birthday cheer awaited me inside. To my surprise, it wasn’t a bright, glittery card with a sappy poem or a jab at my age. Instead, I pulled out two pieces of hastily folded together white paper.

Confused, I looked up at Dylan as I unfolded the papers. “You know what this is all about?”

He nodded, his blue eyes practically glowing with excitement. “Just open it.”

Flattening the sheets out on the counter, I frantically scanned the travel itinerary that had been printed out and sent to me, my heart thumping with anticipation as soon as I realized what was going on. “Jay’s coming to visit on my birthday!”

I wish I could write something with fantasy elements. I have a few ideas, but they’re difficult for me to execute.
